Katsucon Report Full of Love

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 24, 2013, 3:10 PM

Hi there folks!
This little lady is tired of doing her math homework so might as well write a   (not )short and sweet Katsucon report <3

I could simply describe Katsu by : BEST.CON.EVER.
Seriouuuuusly. The con was amazing. The venue beautiful. The people lovely. The cosplays pretty. The people lovely. I had lots of fun with my friends. And did I mention the people were lovely?
Seriously. The whole...atmosphere? of the con was soooooooo warm <3 So different from my usual canadian con ! I loved it.

We (:icontmmeh: :iconliloushoopuf: :icondeltaree: :iconfrenzywonder: :iconmaryalupin: and myself!) arrived on Thursday around 2PM after a 16ish hour bus ride, checked in, went to eat at Nando's and discovered THE MACHINE (If you guys ever go to Katsu, you have to try it out omg.) :iconbahamutnight: joined us shortly after we started our meal and it was nommy!
I changed into Lucy for badge pick up and had a great photoshoot with :iconbahamutnight:, we went to many locations :D!

Friday. I was cosplaying as Kallen from Code Geass (Katsu was a rewear alllllll the costumes con :3). Went out with my girls in the morning, but they were so popular at some point (I'm so proud of my waifus <3) that we splitted up. That is when we discovered the 1 rare inconvenient of Katsu...we couldnt use our cellphones, so finding eachother was a pain. Buuuut we managed!
I had the most amazing photoshoot ever with :iconrocknamlee: . He's a great photographer and working with him is amazing, he's super helpful! Go check him out! [link]

Saturday: Ok I'm really trying hard to keep this short.
Best day ever in my whole con experience. I was cosplaying Sakura from TRC, a brand new costume, with :iconliloushoopuf: as my stunning Syaoran. I can't begin to describe how amazing it felt to wear a nice dress that I had made all by myself, and to get tons of compliments. <3 I'm soo happy. <3
Also we got to meet and talk briefly with Yaya Han and IchigoKitty T__T <3
We attended the WCS and were stunned by the skits. I feel so motivated to do more beautiful cosplays now. <3 (And do a masquarade)
We also shot with :iconbahamutnight: that day, and later on went to Droo's booth. And thats where my no 2. bad thing happened. My dress's zipper...broke right before the shoot. By chance my Shao saved me with her safety pins but it still sucked ;-; and now I have to sew on a new one XD  (Yay zippers...). I changed back into Lucy after that.

Sunday: Cosplayed Shiki Misaki from TWEWY. And old cosplay that never got the chance to get any pictures. So I had that fun shoot with :iconbahamutnight: and finished the con in a most lovely way. I bought a Tomoe Mami at the artist alley and a Gryffindor shirt <3
The trip finished with a nice meal at Time Square while waiting for our bus to Montreal
The ride back home was long and painful, and the school day without sleep even more but it was all worth it.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR MAKING THAT WEEKEND SO LOVELY <3

Sorry for the wall of text. ;-; (I can't help it)

BY THE WAY  YOU GUYS MY POLL HAS A TIE, I NEED SOMEONE TO VOTE FOR EITHER YUE YING OR LYFA OR IMMA CRY D:<

My next con should be Nadeshicon in April, where I'll probably have 1 new cosplay to show off (one of the two named above probably?)

TAKE CARE PEOPLE

........I probably forgot half of the things I really wanted to say but I have to go back to maths now.

What a great con Katsucon was! I would attend it again in the future, if I could. For 2014, I have other plans. ;) But if your group wants to attend this con again next year, I highly suggest staying at the Residence Inn. For $10 more per night, the rooms are bigger and better-equipped than the ones at the Gaylord. Just a suggestion.

Yes, we were actually debatting on wheter we would go back to Gaylord or not...They both had their pros and cons, but we shall see next year!

What plans do YOU have?

For sure, if you plan on staying at the Residence Inn, you'll have to dress up / cover up when walking between the hotel and the Gaylord if you're wearing a costume that isn't too warm (includes outfits with thin, single-layer fabrics). From the cold winds on Sunday of Katsucon, I had to zip up my jacket even if I was wearing 3 layers! But their free breakfasts each morning is a good thing for the wallet/budget, as well as the ability to cook your own meals with groceries you buy at the CVS nearby. :p They have free, no-username/password-required wired and WiFi Internet in all their rooms, and elevators require room keys to go to upper floors.

For 2014, I'll drastically cut cons and focus on 2 very important ones: Costume-Con in Toronto, and Japan Expo in Paris. My attendance at local cons remains 100%, but for out-of-town ones, people will have to finance my trips either fully or partially if they want to see me there! With a very high minimum budget per person for Japan Expo, you can see why I need to cut cons in 2014...

Why weren't you allowed to use your cellphones? You guys did manage to post some cell pics from the con, how comme you couldn't text yourselves?

We didn't have an international plan so every single text message would cost money...and since the bill can go up pretty fast we decided to never text eachother (unless emergency).
If we uploaded pictures it was because we were using the Hotel Wi-Fi, since we were staying at the Gaylord we had access to it when we were in the hotel area...Which is basically the rooms and the Gazebo area. When we were in the ''convention area'' we had no wifi

There were problems with some cellphone models with incoming calls/texts at the Gaylord - these phones couldn't receive them. *BahamutNight knows these problems first-hand. (Mine had no problems at all during the whole weekend.) Outgoing calls/texts were OK, but incoming ones couldn't reach these phones. That hotel was a "twilight zone" for those phones. @_@ But once outside, everything was fine.

Wow, that's weird. And rather inconvenient for a hotel :/
